Job Summary

The Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences is currently seeking STARS Tutors to join their team of professionals. Learning/Course Assistants are assigned to labs or classes to work with students alongside the primary instructor. Duties to include:

STARS provides fully online near-peer tutoring assistance to students enrolled in KF-SCIS courses. Tutors are expected to cover multiple courses. Duties include:

  • Joining the STARS organization
  • Attending a mandatory training session at the start of the semester
  • Commit to a fixed weekly schedule of online tutoring hours.
  • Record all tutoring encounters using a specified activity log.
  • Tutor students with assigned coursework
  • Employ student-centered teaching techniques.
  • Assist with examination proctoring.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.

Knowledge of classroom subject.

Customer service knowledge

Basic level of Microsoft Office Suites.

Ability to work independently as needed

Ability to provide direction to students.

Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

Standard 20 hours

Advertised Salary

$700.00 to $5000.00 total gross per semester (paid in biweekly increments)
