Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Faculty Practice Manager for the department of Neurosurgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The primary purpose of the Faculty Practice Manager position is to provide effective leadership for the overall operations of the Department of Neurosurgery. Responsible for efficient and effective daily operations, general administration and accountability of the practice, including but not limited to personnel, budget oversight and performance, patient through-put, the billing cycle, patient scheduling, registration, patient co-pay collection, coding performance, timely claim submissions, denial analysis, denial/ appeals process, training, and other related clinical practice support. Provides leadership and influences the practice's personnel (faculty and staff) to achieve service delivery objectives set for the clinical practice. Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures and various accrediting bodies and government agencies.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to clinical practice personnel (front desk, billers, and clinical staff) and guidance on all matters affecting the clinical practice.
  • Participates effectively in personnel matters, coordinates functions of staff, reassigning and distributing work assignments, and evaluates the education and training needs of personnel and directs development and implementation of in-service programs.
  • Supervises and conducts performance evaluations of clinical practice personnel, and ensures that the staff is evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to the clinical practice's policies and procedures. Provides appropriate management interventions in an effective manner.
  • Performs and recommends the hiring, firing, training, performance recognition/assessment, discipline, timekeeping, record keeping, policy implementation, promoting and other personnel actions.
  • Performs personnel management functions such as establishing personnel qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals and installing record and reporting systems.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the overall patient care program. Prepares periodic reports concerning patient care services, the clinical revenue cycle, and billing/coding errors/trends. Initiates studies to evaluate effectiveness of clinical practice personnel in relation to their objectives, costs and volume. Compiles statistical data and writes narrative reports summarizing findings and recommendations. Engages in studies and investigations related to improving delivery of services and practice efficiency.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant social or health care field; plus five (5) years of related experience preferably in a professional practice setting.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience required.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Capable of exercising sound leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the clinical revenue cycle, including thorough knowledge of billing/coding regulations and practices.
  • Demonstrated interest and participation in professional, educational and research activities.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required.

  • Knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
