Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Unit Admin Specialist.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:

  • Provides short term administrative support to the Rutgers Law School in our Newark location under the discretion of the Business Service Team.
  • Reports to the Sr. Department Administrator providing a wide range of administrative support to the Law School Community's Newark location.
  • Provides regular administrative support to the Business Services Team. This support will include providing back up support to various departments within the school particularly during peak periods and in the absence of key personnel.
  • Occasionally requires some evenings and weekends.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous office experience in an educational setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in an administrative position
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
