The Assistant Regulatory Compliance Attorney, will be responsible for researching and handling regulatory compliance issues..

This position will be with National Indemnity Company in Omaha, NE, and available for hybrid upon management discretion. This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship.

What will you do?

  • LEGAL RESEARCH & MONITORING: Research compliance issues pertaining to the insurance operations of the National Indemnity group of insurance companies.
  • COMPLIANCE SUPPORT FOR PRIMARY OPERATIONS: Analyzes and understands current company primary procedures. Assists with making changes to the computer programs or procedures made to comply with new laws or as directed by management.
  • COMPLIANCE REVIEWS: Reviews compliance-sensitive procedures for company primary and other business segments, as necessary. Summarizes and recommends to management proposed actions.
  • REGULATORY COMPLIANCE WORK: Works closely with company departments and other business segments to identify and investigate compliance issues and suggest ways to prevent or resolve them.
  • NATIONAL INDEMNITY COMPANY SURETY: Reviews submissions, rider requests renewal invoicing from other Berkshire Hathaway Inc. principals for issuing surety bonds.
  • REGULATORY COMMUNICATION: Works within IRRU and with other business segments to address insurance and other regulatory inquiries, communications, and consumer complaints related to company primary and other business segments. Assists with the unit and management handling state and regulatory audits.
  • COMPLIANCE ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Performs compliance-related administrative tasks, such as data entry and document preparation; handles phone, mail, and email communication; drafts correspondence; and distributes compliance bulletins, notices, and announcements.

What are we looking for?

  • One or more years work experience.
  • Juris Doctor.
  • Familiarity with legal research databases
  • Computer technical skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Company manuals, policy coverage, endorsements
  • Insurance terminology
  • Company and department practices and procedures
  • Insurance related courses such as CPCU, IIA, or AU
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Exceptional legal writing skills
  • Proofread documents and forms
  • Exceptional organization and documentation
  • Analytical skills

  • Work with moderate or minimal supervision
