The Staff Accountant position is a critical role within the Finance function, working directly with the Controller and responsible for a variety of specialized and technical accounting and reporting activities for First Bankers Trust. The successful candidate will leverage their general ledger accounting skills, accounting knowledge and reporting abilities to perform and improve processes and the controls around those processes to provide accurate, timely, complete and relevant information to Finance and Bank management.




  • Prepare, record and analyze monthly general ledger entries for bank and bank holding company
  • Perform account reconciliation activities, ensuring accounts within scope of role are accurately represented, balanced and documented
  • Assist with certain aspects of the CECL calculation and related quarterly model testing.
  • Prepare select financial reports for bank management and the board of directors, to include serving as the lead reporting analyst for bank deposits
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly CALL and fed regulatory reporting.
  • Support the Bank Treasurer and Bank Controller with investment securities processing, including onboarding of bond transactions into the bank's system of record, performing market valuation entries, and performing associated reporting
  • Lead abandoned property recording and annual reporting
  • Execute special projects and other duties as may be deemed necessary
  • Be a great, collaborative team member with a willingness to help others achieve success


Key Competency Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related Finance field (banking preferred though not required)
  • A desire to embrace change, improve processes, and reduce manual efforts
  • General ledger accounting knowledge including with accounting, reporting and reconciliations
  • Experience participating and/or leading projects with others
  • Ability to communicate well both written and orally, including through presentations
  • Strong organizational, time management skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrates strong analytical thinking skills and strong self-directed problem solving skills
  • Desire to execute responsibilities effectively and in an independent manner
  • Exhibit a customer focused mindset, being courteous and helpful to others
  • A desire to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to address job related/technical issues and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
  • Top notch MS Office Excel, Powerpoint, and Word skills. Use of macros, pivot tables, dashboard / Power BI are additional pluses
