How you make a difference in this role:

This classification is responsible for professional auditing work of unusual difficulty and managerial and supervisory work of considerable difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the highest class in the Auditor sub-series which is the department's Chief Audit Executive. An employee in this class directs all financial, compliance, program and/or operational audit activities for a large department with a largest professional auditing staff, and large, complex and diverse programs and fiscal operations. This class differs from that of Audit Director 2 in that incumbent of the latter direct auditing activities for a department with programs of lesser scope and complexity.

Job Overview:

Plans, organizes and directs all auditing activities for a large department with large, and complex programs and fiscal operations; directs financial, compliance, program and/or operational audits for the department. Directs the assignment, training, supervision and evaluation of a large professional auditing staff and their work; makes decisions concerning employment, retention, demotion, dismissal and other human resources actions. Coordinates external audit activities with the Comptroller of the Treasury and other state and federal agency audit personnel. Establishes and maintains a variety of important personal contacts with division heads, high level managerial personnel, governmental and private agency officials, attorneys, accountants and associates in resolving and correcting major problems uncovered in audits and in dealing with complex and controversial audit findings. Directs the preparation and maintenance of detailed and complex audit narrative reports and supporting financial documentation in order to identify legal, financial and/or administrative problems or discrepancies, and recommends methods for improvements. Directs special studies and investigations as requested by the department head.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or equivalent. Seven years of Auditing/ Monitoring activities with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience. Certain roles may require the incumbent to be a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
