Field Service Technician (Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle)

STS Technical Services is hiring a Field Service Technician to support Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) operations for the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserves at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a mission-critical role providing expert-level maintenance and system support in one of the most demanding environments in the country.


Position Summary:

Based at Fort Wainwright, this role is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and upgrading CATV platforms-the modern replacement for the Small Unit Support Vehicle (SUSV). You'll work closely with military personnel and technical teams to deliver operational readiness in extreme cold-weather conditions.

This is a boots-on-the-ground opportunity with minimal travel and long-term program potential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide both in-garrison and field maintenance support for CATV systems
  • Diagnose and repair drivetrain, suspension, hydraulic, HVAC, and electrical systems
  • Execute warranty work, retrofits, and performance upgrades
  • Maintain detailed service records and technical documentation
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams and military personnel
  • Work independently or collaboratively in high-tempo environments
  • Perform hands-on tasks in extreme weather for extended periods
  • Follow all safety regulations, program policies, and federal guidelines

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship with valid state-issued driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport and Common Access Card (CAC)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a Military Maintenance MOS program or relevant civilian automotive/heavy truck training
  • Minimum of 4 years hands-on maintenance experience in heavy equipment or vehicle roles
  • Skilled in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, HVAC, and electrical systems
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Former U.S. military technician with E-5 or above in a maintenance MOS
  • 6+ years experience working on tracked or heavy wheeled vehicles
  • Prior experience in arctic or cold-weather operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to adapt and learn continuously

  • Fort Wainwright, Alaska (primary)
  • JBER - Richardson, Alaska (as needed)
