What this role is all about:

We are looking for a Safety Coordinator in Jerome, ID. The Safety Coordinator assists the Safety Manager with site safety programs including but not limited to: new employee safety orientation, safety training, written program, safety procedure creation and maintenance, and daily and weekly safety tasks to create a positive safety culture. This position will assist the Safety Manager in managing, identifying and auditing the systems associated with Plant and Health and Safety compliance. The Safety Coordinator will assist the Safety Manager to ensure compliance with local, state, federal regulations such as OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI. This role will identify, evaluate, and act on company initiatives or risk mitigation to ensure continuous improvement of Health and Safety measures, and overall safety culture.

  • Provide training and coaching to ensure safety standards and awareness are well understood throughout the organization.
  • Assist Safety Manager with compliance training to applicable employees on OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Assist Safety Manager to ensure facilities are compliant with all OSHA, all federal and state/local safety guidelines and requirements, and organization safety standards.
  • Develop and track safety toolbox talks as needed.
  • Assist safety manager in tracking of non-routine tasks projects
  • Assist Safety Manager in tracking and maintenance of safety records including but not limited to; Confined Space Entry Permits, Non-Routine Task Permits, Lockout Tagout and Confined Space Hands-On Training Documents, Forklift Hands On Certifications, Hot Work Permits, Employee Respiratory Fit Test Records
  • Assist Safety Manager in the development, maintenance and annual review of lockout-tagout and confined space entry procedures.
  • Administer a new and transfer employee safety orientation program.
  • Develop and update job hazard analysis and hazard assessments.
  • Research, develop, and deliver safety materials and training presentations.
  • Enroll, track, and maintain safety compliance training attendance records.
  • Provide safety training reports on a weekly basis to ensure compliance.
  • Track and maintain pertinent safety information on a database.
  • Partner with management to investigate all safety incidents and "Near Misses" in KANVA, conduct reviews, and determine root cause analysis to include resolution and develop action plans.
  • Routinely inspect areas of the plant and all safety equipment located throughout the plant and office environments.
  • With the involvement of Site Plant Managers and a cross section of plant-based employees, assist safety committee and activities.
  • Create and maintain safety committee minutes and postings for the plant.
  • Development and management of safety culture building projects and contests.
  • Understand relevant technical requirements in safety, including Federal, State and local ordinances and rules.
  • Confer with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies.
  • Complete all special projects as assigned by the Safety Manager.
  • Understand and adhere to all Quality Assurance policies, Good Manufacturing Practice and Standard Operating Procedures and translate into workable plant procedures, including implementation and accountability to the policies.

What you need:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in safety and health work preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years within a similar manufacturing environment required.
  • Food/beverage manufacturing and dairy safety background highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of First Aid, Confined Space entry, LOTO, Process Safety Management, and experience in Classroom Instruction preferred.

Our Jerome, ID, plant is home to approximately 400 employees and processes approximately 7 million pounds of milk per day. This facility produces various types of cheeses, such as; mozzarella, cheddar, provolone, muenster, parmesan, romano, Monterey jack, gouda, and asiago. They also run various whey streams, such as; deproteinized whey, sweet dairy whey, GMP, permeate, instantized, and our top-rated BiPro products.
