The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Director of Data Innovation. This position will play a pivotal role in building out the newly established Health Data Incubator, which includes assembling and managing a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing the development and strategic use of campus data assets. A strong background on the strategic business aspects of partnering with the biopharmaceutical industry around data and research collaborations are critical to this role. The Director will be responsible for shaping and executing partnering strategies with key industry collaborators, fostering innovation, and accelerating data-driven research and clinical applications. This individual will bring a strong business acumen in the healthcare data space and a proven track record of developing and implementing strategic initiatives in complex, fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will be both a big-picture thinker and a tactical executor-an agile leader capable of aligning diverse stakeholders, securing institutional support, and delivering measurable results. The Director will oversee a team dedicated to the business and operational aspects of integrating multimodal data sources, including EMR, imaging, biospecimens, and multiomics data. They will collaborate closely with investigators, clinical departments, pathology, IRB, and other campus units to ensure that data innovation efforts align with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements. An understanding of biomedical data, data governance, and compliance standards, such as HIPAA and GDPR, is important, along with familiarity with tools and technologies used in large-scale data analytics. The Director must also be a strong communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of forging productive relationships across academic, clinical, and industry domains to position CU Anschutz at the forefront of data-driven innovation. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the business aspects of developing multimodal data sets, including longitudinal patient data, biospecimens, imaging, genomic data, and other relevant resources.
- Develop and manage relationships with industry partners looking to engage with the university.
- Form processes and strategies to engage with internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure successful execution of engagements with industry partners looking to fund and co-create multimodal datasets.
- Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for multimodal data development at the Anschutz Medical Campus, including the hospitals, various schools, and research institutes.
- Identify opportunities to leverage external partnerships, grants, and funding to expand the data ecosystem.
- Coordinate key campus resources to support data set creation, such as Health Data Compass, Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine, Pathology Shared Resource.
- Recruit, manage, and mentor a team of data project managers, business development personnel and other support staff (e.g., clinical data specialists, biospecimen specialists) required to execute on the data innovation strategic plan.

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in life sciences, business administration, or similar.
- 8+ years of experience in healthcare data business development or a related field, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
Substitution language: a master's degree or other advanced degree in a related field can be substituted for a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in life sciences, business administration, or similar.
- 9+ years of experience in healthcare data business development, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- 2 years of experience in a startup environment with responsibilities including building dynamic teams to follow a strategic vision and hit key performance indicators.
- 3+ years of experience working at a commercial data vendor.
- 5-7 years of demonstrated success in building partnerships with industry to support data initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience building and overseeing multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to develop strategical plans and lead tactical execution.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Exceptional collaboration skills, with a track record of working with diverse stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of multimodal data sources such as EMR, imaging, biospecimens, and genomic data, with proven ability to integrate and harmonize these data types.
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy laws, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Knowledge of applications for biological and clinical data, including an awareness of demand for novel data sets
- Awareness of data analytics tools, software platforms, and programming languages relevant to large-scale data processing and analysis.
- Ability to develop and execute a long-term vision for data innovation while managing short-term priorities.
- Demonstrated success in building, leading, and mentoring diverse, multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with researchers, clinicians, administrators, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions to overcome barriers to data integration and utilization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as: $155,000 - $225,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
