Job Summary:

Patriot Rail is a growing company that is looking for a dynamic professional to join its GL Accounting team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing timely, complete, and accurate accounting records for multiple entity locations. The Manager of Accounting is a critical position who will interact with various departments, coordinate with the field, and support the company's financial statement close process. This position requires a strong foundation in technical GAAP and the ability to perform detailed work as well as high-level reviewing. This position is a full-time, exempt position based in Jacksonville, Florida.


Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee Accounting Operations:

* Manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.

* Coordinate and manage the month-end and year-end close processes with various operations managers and revenue teams.

* Prepare, calculate, and review monthly journal entries into the accounting system.

* Analyze monthly financial performance against budget and prepare variance explanations.

* Prepare ad hoc management reports as needed for research and explanation purposes.

* Research, identify, and correct unusual or incorrect accounting entries.

* Prepare schedules and sample selections for audit requests.

* Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance the accounting function.

* Perform other job-related duties as directed.



Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

* 3 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.

* Strong foundation of accounting knowledge and ability to consistently apply GAAP.

* Must possess flexibility with work assignments and be able to multi-task.

* Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and organized.

* Must maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.

* Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

* Friendly and proven ability to work cross-functionally.

* Must have advanced computer and Excel skills.

* General knowledge of accounting and ERP systems.

* General knowledge of SAP preferred.



Minimum Physical Requirements:

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, write, talk, type, and hear. Occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend, and/or kneel and lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. Typically in an office environment but may occasionally travel and/or visit a railroad, facility, warehouse, or outdoor environment.
