CDL Driver
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a CDL Driver to support day shift operations in our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
- Pick-up and the drop-off of materials and equipment.
- Assist with regular maintenance needs throughout the shipyard and maintenance shop.
- May attach ground wire to truck.
- Drive Trailer-Tank- Truck and watch truck during pumping operation.
- Maintain driver log and pre & post trip on tractor and trailers.
- Regularly look after the maintenance of fuel tankers, and trailers, and ensured the proper working of safety procedures.
- Efficiently transport material to their specified destination.
- Maintain complete logs and reports regarding the on-time delivery of materials, mileage covered in transportation, fuel consumed, repair reports, etc.
- Perform required daily vehicle inspections.
- Communicate with Supervisor and Shop Foreman daily to obtain schedule to where to load.
- Follow safety and DOT rules and regulations.
- Systematically received and relayed the information to the department Shop Foreman or Lead Mechanic Supervisor.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment - hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/ shoes and when necessary, a respirator.
- Work independently to complete responsibilities.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in a shipyard environment.
- Must be able to work effectively with others.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, with no moving violations within the last 5 years.
- Must be approved for the Company's "Approved Driver's List".
- Must have a current Class A CDL.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Must be able to work either 1st or 2nd shift and able to work overtime if requested.
- Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience at Colonna's highly preferred.
Security Requirements:
- Position requires you to obtain and maintain a DBIDS.
- Position requires US Citizenship.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
- Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined Spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
- While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
