The role:

The Sr. Manager of Benefits and Payroll oversees the strategy and administration of employee benefit programs and payroll processes for Kao North America (US and Canada) . You will help ensure that employee Benefits and Payroll are handled compliantly, and in a way that supports employee satisfaction and our goals.

You will ensure benefit plans are competitive and operationally compliant, creating strategy, examining costs, and managing external vendor relationships. You will manage payroll processing for the US and Canada. You will direct the work of the Sr Benefits Analyst, Benefits Analyst II, Benefits ERISA Consultant, Payroll Supervisor, Payroll Specialist and Canada Payroll Specialist (dotted-line report).

What you will do:

Employee Benefits Programs:



  • Leads the strategy and administration of the Health & Welfare and Retirement Plans, both qualified and nonqualified, designed to attract and retain qualified team members in the US and Canada
  • Leads the Annual Open Enrollment process including system set up, comprehensive communications and payroll deductions
  • Manages the company's leave administration programs: STD, LTD, FMLA, Parental Leave, Time-Off programs, Non-medical FMLA and Workers' Compensation


Payroll Administration:



  • Oversees US and Canada Payroll processing, payroll tax management and unemployment tax management. Ensure payroll compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws, deductions, and other regulatory requirements
  • Approves bi-weekly payroll. Approves set-up of new pay codes across KAI. Assists in resolving issues with payroll vendors
  • Review and audit payroll data for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies


Compliance and Reporting:



  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding benefits offerings, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and other Government compliance; conduct periodic internal operational audits for compliance; FASB Compliance for Post Retirement Plan- monitoring caps
  • Manages government VCP or other IRS correction filings
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws and government regulations related to payroll, benefits, and taxes (e.g., FLSA, ACA, FMLA)



What you will need:



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in HR, with experience strategizing, implementing, and managing payroll and benefits
  • Experience managing HR teams and payroll systems is required
  • Experience with HRIS and Payroll software
