Your Role

A Design Manager - Workplace - Interior Architecture at Gensler works with a high level of autonomy and is responsible for executing a variety of project types and sizes. They lead all phases of project delivery and must possess a strong working knowledge of the entire design and construction process to ensure successful project completion.

The Design Manager oversees relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, engineers, and specialty consultants. They serve as the main point of contact for the client throughout the project and are accountable for the quality of all work produced.

In addition, the Design Manager collaborates with and mentors junior staff, promoting design excellence and ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.

What You Will Do

  • Act as lead design manager for a variety of project types

  • Demonstrated ability to generate new client relationships, lead projects and marketing opportunities with existing clients, and working closely with our Marketing department to lead business development reporting, lead generation, and proposal writing

  • Drive the project delivery during all phases of the project

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and work plans

  • Prepare and review proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements

  • Review internal project accounting documents and process draft project billing

  • Participate in firm marketing, proposal writing, and project interviews

  • Manage mid-size to large project teams, assign and monitor completion of tasks

  • Mentor junior staff

  • Participate in the coordination and document preparation for projects and provide quality assurance via review of project documentation

Your Qualifications

  • 12+ years of related experience, including demonstrated success as a project manager on a range of corporate interiors project types

  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of interior design projects.

  • Ability to handle architectural projects and coordinated Brand and Strategy scopes related to projects a plus

  • Experience leading, managing and mentoring multiple project teams

  • Experience negotiating project scope and fees

  • Knowledge of state and local building codes including accessibility

  • Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility on projects

  • Strong leadership, organization, communication and relationship management skills

  • Must have the ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships

  • Accredited degree in Architecture or Interior Design required

  • AIA, NCIDQ or CID preferred
