Operations Manager

Buffalo, NY * Be part of an exciting journey as we build our new facility in the Western New York Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park in Alabama, NY! This role offers a unique hybrid opportunity, blending remote work flexibility with on-site presence during the facility's construction phase.

Salary Range: $125,000 - 172,000

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location.

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational activities at a new greenfield Product Company (manufacturing site), ensuring the successful ramp-up of production over the next 12 months. This role will lead the site's high-precision machining, assembly operations, and overall performance, integrating equipment and processes transferred from an existing company site. The Operations Manager will drive operational efficiency, quality, and safety while managing a leadership team, including the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and team leads for machining and assembly areas, to establish a world-class manufacturing operation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all site operations, including high-precision machining, assembly, and support functions, to meet production goals and customer demands.

  • Oversee the successful transfer of equipment, processes, and operational knowledge from an existing company site to the greenfield facility, ensuring minimal disruption and timely execution.

  • Manage and mentor direct reports, including the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and team leads for machining and assembly, fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Develop and implement operational plans to achieve production ramp-up targets over the next 12 months, aligning with company objectives for quality, cost, and delivery.

  • Monitor and optimize key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, on-time delivery, equipment uptime, and operational costs.

  • Collaborate with supply chain, quality, and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of processes and resources during the site startup phase.

  • Establish and enforce safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory compliance across all operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity and eliminate waste.

  • Manage operational budgets, including labor, materials, and overhead costs, while providing input into capital expenditure decisions.

  • Initially travel (up to 25% in the first 6-9 months) to the existing site to oversee the transition process, troubleshoot challenges, and align teams, transitioning to minimal travel once the site is fully operational.

Experience/Skills/Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree or MBA is a plus.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing multiple functions or teams.

  • Proven track record of managing greenfield site startups, large-scale process transfers, or production ramp-ups in a high-precision manufacturing environment a plus.

  • Strong understanding of high-precision machining (e.g., CNC, milling, turning) and assembly operations.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, with demonstrated ability to manage managers and team leads effectively.

  • Expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma (certification preferred), and operational excellence methodologies.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to oversee complex, multi-phase initiatives and deliver results on time and within budget.

  • Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making and performance optimization.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of aligning diverse teams and engaging with senior leadership.
