PAY RANGE: $81,000 - $150,000

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. & Flexible
Work hours (subject to change based on temporary project/outage/plant needs). Minimal overnight travel required.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer role provides engineering support for Evergy's existing and future power plants - both conventional and renewable. This role will accomplish strategic improvements, perform detailed designs/studies, and execute complex troubleshooting relating to the company's control systems.

* Design, develop, and implement control systems for power generation plants, including both conventional and renewable energy sources.
* Work with plant management, engineers, technicians, operations, and maintenance staff to identify local and distributed control system (DCS) issues.
* Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems to ensure efficient and reliable plant operations.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the design, commissioning and startup of new power generation facilities.
* Perform capital improvement projects for both conventional and renewable generating units.
* Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities.
* Provide assistance and guidance to maintenance, technical, operations, and engineering personnel at several coal and gas powered generating facilities.
* Work with a wide variety of people from varied backgrounds in a manner that promotes safety and cooperation in order to get equipment back online and keep it online.
* Collaborate with fleet engineering teams on standards and best practices.
* Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems to ensure efficient and reliable plant operations.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the commissioning and startup of new power generation facilities.
* Support NERC/FERC compliance; specifically related to Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards for generating sites.
* Perform auditing of control system alarms, provide guidance for alarm priorities, and assist operations with elimination of nuisance alarms.
* Develop and maintain documentation, including schematics, manuals, and operational procedures.
* Provide technical support and training to plant personnel on instrumentation and control systems.
* Review control system logic and assist basic turning/modification of system controls.

Education and Experience Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
* Proven experience or interest in instrumentation and control engineering.
* Familiarity with conventional and renewable energy technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Professional Engineer (PE) license.
* Experience with advanced control strategies and optimization techniques.
* Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for control systems.
* Knowledge of control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS and HMIs.
* Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols including HART, Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP, RTU, OPC, CAN, etc
* Experience with Ovation, ABB INFI 90, Siemens T3000, GE Mark Vie, and similar
* Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to power generation and control systems.

* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with stakeholders with diverse work backgrounds.
* Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
* Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate effectively.

Working Conditions:
Majority of time will be spent working at Evergy's existing generating plants in an office or computer room setting. Some field work will be required in a construction or industrial setting (must be physically capable to access ladders, platforms, etc.).
