Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Research Modeling Wildland Urban Interface at UL Research Institutes, based in our Columbia, MD office.

The Post-doctoral researcher performs independent research in preparation for a career as a scientific professional, contributing to and advancing fire dynamics and modeling research of the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI). The post-doctoral researcher will assist in initiating the design, development, execution, and implementation of fire dynamics and modeling for Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) research project. The post-doctoral researcher will assist in data collection, modeling, and analysis to advance the science of fire modeling by providing data and information with the goal of disseminating the research findings and methodology via peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, conferences, and on-line educational programs.

This two-year Post-doctoral researcher position is focused on addressing concerns related to advancements in modeling of fire spread in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. Fire spread modeling in WUI is a new and upcoming challenge and requires development and validation of accurate sub-models and model input parameters. The post-doctoral researcher is expected to contribute to this research problem.

UL Research Institutes:

At UL Research Institutes (ULRI), we expand the boundaries of safety science to create a more secure and sustainable world. For more than a century, we have studied the unintended consequences of innovation, designed solutions to mitigate risk and shared our findings with academia, scientists, manufacturers, and policymakers across industries. We identify critical safety and sustainability issues, asking the tough questions because we believe a safer world begins with knowledge.
