Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing the natural gas scheduling, nominating, and confirming daily physical natural gas purchases and sales including monitoring of all pipeline cycles to ensure delivery occurs for all transactions. This position also enters transactions in internal systems to track flows and costs. The Gas Scheduler works directly with pipelines, suppliers, Gas Traders and other internal groups.

The Gas Scheduler works in natural gas areas of specialization, with expectations of training and become proficient to operate with minimal to no daily supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently and join the scheduling rotation to support the scheduling requirements for Duke Energy. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that are complex and varied.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling, nominating, and confirming of daily physical gas purchases and sales including monitoring of all NAESB pipeline cycles to ensure delivery is occurring on all transactions. Enter transactions in internal systems to track flows and costs. Works directly with pipelines and suppliers.
  • Managing monthly/Daily imbalance positions. Monitoring pipeline operations and advise appropriate personnel of potential restrictions that may affect pricing and/or deliveries. Execute imbalance trading on pipelines to minimize costs and manage monthly imbalances on pipelines.
  • Backup, weekend, and evening coverage responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with suppliers/pipelines to resolve volume/price discrepancies. Provide support to gas accounting in reconciling monthly invoices.
  • Reviewing Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBB) and other market information for possible capacity release opportunities to assist Gas Traders.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Gas Scheduler

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 3 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 5 year(s) related work experience

Senior Gas Scheduler

  • Bachelor's degree in business related major, engineering or related field and a
  • Minimum 5 years related work experience.
  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 5 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 7 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Required experience in the energy industry. Previous experience in gas scheduling preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct equivalent related work experience in day to day energy operations, logistics and transportation, supply chain, trading, and/or related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience scheduling, balancing, and nominating onintrastate systems, interstate pipelines and storage facilities are strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency using Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Proficiently operate computer software and hardware for data manipulation, analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Significant experience scheduling natural gas on various interstate gas pipeline and LDC systems. Strong ability to make independent real time decisions, can identify, clarify and solve complex scheduling issues.
  • Ability to conceptualize and analyze multiple scenarios in solving problems.
  • Requires the ability to make independent decisions, resolve issues with various pipelines and suppliers and communicate effectively.
Working Conditions
  • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Open-fast paced environment with hard daily deadlines. Implications of missed deadlines or inaccuracies in work product could cost the company and add additional cost to customers.
  • Must be available weekends and nights to be on call.
