OPERATIONS MANAGER

Milliman, Inc. (www.milliman.com) is seeking an OPERATIONS MANAGER to work in a fast-growing department in Omaha. The Omaha Health & Welfare practice was started 24 years ago to serve large employers in the design and administration of their employee benefit insurance plans. The atmosphere is business casual with 70 other professionals in an upscale office setting at 180th and Dodge Street in Omaha, Nebraska.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Operations Manager will have an important role in the ongoing success of our practice including profit center and staff responsibilities. We have numerous health insurance clients and prospects that depend on our consultants for their success. This position will interact with all members of our staff as well as many clients. The primary challenges are the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time, the ability to interact with people with varied personalities and communication styles, and the flexibility to adjust resources as needed. This position will have minimal travel requirements, if any. Some of the specific duties are listed below:

Profit Center Responsibilities



  1. Support Omaha Health & Welfare strategic initiatives - annual product enhancements, office space alignment
  2. Develop guidelines that support the Omaha Health & Welfare practice


    1. Overall quality and QRM processes - pass post-release peer review, internal audits, HiTrust, SOC2
    2. Send office-wide communications about guidelines, policy changes, staff/client allocations, etc


  3. Optimize revenue versus time charges by client
  4. Periodic meetings with functional team leaders


    1. Liaise with various teams (Sales, Marketing, Account Management, etc)
    2. Facilitate conversations and meetings
    3. Answer or redirect random questions
    4. Coordinate activities and communication with team leaders


  5. Connect people and help frame conversations to better serve clients
  6. Work with Equity Principals on year-end comp planning and conversations


Staff Responsibilities



  1. Ensure all team members have a growing relationship with clients


    1. Onsite visits
    2. Appropriate delivery of our services
    3. Regular phone calls
    4. Email correspondence


  2. Allocation of workloads relative to needs of profit center, teams, and individual staff members


    1. Assign brokers and projects to client teams
    2. Rebalance as needed


  3. Support professional development of staff


    1. Encourage mentor and Milliman Leadership Academy participation
    2. Facilitate new hire acclimation
    3. Identify future leaders and invest in their development
    4. Connect professionals in the Principal Pipeline with reference opportunities
    5. Support Principal nominations and assist with memos
    6. Addressing and advising on concerns


  4. Semi-annual performance reviews


    1. Manage calibration of employee scores
    2. Address performance issues



QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree
  • Master of Business degree preferred but not required
  • Previous experience within health insurance preferred but not required.
  • Three years' experience as Operations Manager preferred.
  • Individual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.


SKILLS & ABILITIES



  • Exceptional finance and accounting abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, including pivot tables, database management, and report formatting
  • Previous experience with database programs such as MS Access and SQL a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to portray a professional image consistent with Milliman's role as a consultant with phone calls, e-mails, and other correspondence.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently within a team-based consulting environment.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and offer input.
  • Flexibility with a customer first attitude.


LOCATION

This position is based out of the Milliman office in Omaha, Nebraska. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite full-time.
