Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Entry Level Molten Salt Engineer to work on our Advanced Technology of Molten Salts team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials & Fuels Complex (MFC) with every Friday off.

A hands-on Engineer in the Advanced Technologies of Molten Salts Department supports the development of cutting-edge technologies in relation to molten salt chemistry and molten salt reactor technologies at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC). You will apply engineering and research principles to implement and execute research projects, experiments, and technologies in radiological and nuclear laboratories. You will will work with facility management, engineers, other researchers, health and safety professionals, and subject matter experts to write work control documents and procedures in order to implement and execute molten salt experiments. You will be expected to become qualified to work in radiological gloveboxes in facilities at the Materials and Fuels Complex. Working under the supervision of principal researchers to perform work in a safe and compliant manner and to meet research objectives.

Responsibilities Include:



  • The chosen candidate will conduct research and development activities that advance the state of the art as well as participate in multiple programs.
  • Maintain an experimental laboratory notebook.
  • Communicate with facility, mentors, principal researchers on status of experiments.
  • Participation in development of research projects planning by contributing to project planning and review meetings.
  • Assist in the design, assembly, and operation of unique and custom laboratory experiments.
  • Support the operation and interpretation of results from experimental data.
  • Meet environmental, health, and safety goals, and perform all work in an environmentally safe and compliant manner.
  • Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participating in conference activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 1: Bachelors degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or a related field.
  • Level 2: Bachelors degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or a related field. and 2 years of related exp.
  • Hands on laboratory experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Experience:



  • Experience in working in inert environments such as glove boxes.
  • Knowledge of molten salts.
  • Radiological worker experience.
  • Technical communication and writing skills to produce work control documents, procedures, test plans, technical presentations and peer reviewed journal articles.


Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 $65,064.00- $133,416.00 / Level 2 $77,628.00 - $159,228.00. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
