Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Subsystem Manager - CLDP & ISS Help Create and Sustain the Systems That Keep Humans Alive in Space

Are you passionate about making human spaceflight possible - and safe? Do you want to work on systems that quite literally help astronauts breathe, stay cool, and survive in space? If you're looking to make a meaningful difference in space exploration while working with a forward-thinking, diverse team - we want to hear from you.

Astrion, as part of NAsa's JETTS2 is looking for a dynamic ECLS Subsystem Manager to support both the Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations Program (CLDP) and the International Space Station (ISS).

What You'll Do:

As an Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Subsystem Manager, you'll be at the heart of designing, evaluating, and managing the critical systems that enable human life in space - from temperature control to oxygen flow.

This exciting dual-role spans two key NASA programs:

50% - Support for CLDP (Commercial LEO Destinations Program):
  • Be part of a small, specialized team shaping the future of commercial space habitats

  • Serve as the primary ECLS liaison for Axiom Space - helping them develop life-support systems for commercial missions

  • Collaborate with multiple providers to transfer knowledge, share ISS ECLS data, and support system-level development from concept through operations

  • Participate in requirements development, design reviews, and verification activities

  • Translate engineering data and test results into actionable guidance for partners

  • Coordinate with NASA teams, commercial providers, and various engineering groups to keep life support system development on track

  • Occasional travel may be required

50% - ISS Temperature & Humidity Control Subsystem Manager:
  • Take the lead on the Temperature & Humidity Control (THC) subsystem for the ISS - ensuring it runs smoothly in space

  • Oversee both government and contractor-supplied THC hardware (including U.S., European, and Russian systems)

  • Coordinate closely with NASA and Boeing teams on technical and operational decisions

  • Support real-time operations from the ISS Mission Evaluation Room (MER) when needed

  • Troubleshoot system issues, lead problem resolution, and represent your subsystem in technical reviews and board meetings

  • Contribute to long-term planning for future flight hardware, upgrades, and consumables

  • Some travel may be required

Plus - ECLS Manifesting Focal:
  • Plan and track launch, return, and disposal cargo needs for a subset of ISS ECLS hardware

  • Ensure the right hardware and consumables are delivered to the ISS when needed

What You Bring to the Table:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience (space systems, flight operations, subsystem management, or similar)

  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, pressure systems, or fluid systems

  • Familiarity with space vehicle flight operations, especially ISS-related processes

  • Strong communication skills, including real-time decision-making with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ECLS hardware or ISS ventilation systems

  • Knowledge of hardware certification and NASA flight processes

  • Understanding of visiting vehicle integration and subsystem interaction

  • Hands-on experience with system/subsystem management in a spaceflight environment

  • Working knowledge of NASA processes, technical boards, and life support design considerations
