Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Facility Safety/Quality Engineer located at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. This is a fulltime position performing a variety of safety operational tasks located at the Kennedy Space Center's Component Refurbishment Chemical Analysis Facility (CRCA).

JOB DETAILS

The Facility Safety/Quality Engineer will coordinate and conduct site safety and health assessments and reviews pertaining to a variety of programs and processes, testing and evaluation of Operational Laboratory program, processes, and operations. The selected candidate will also ensure compliance with the AS9100D Quality Management System and support adherence to NASA and external customer quality requirements. In addition, the engineer will assist with hazardous operations at the CRCA and in field projects. These may involve high-pressure gases, toxic substances, hypergolic propellants, working at heights, and environments with low oxygen levels. Work will be performed onsite at the Kennedy Space Center. Other duties may involve work for Astrion outside of the CRCA operational support. This position may require occasional weekend work depending on task.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Quality, or related field
• 5 years of related experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

• Excellent communication, presentation and customer interface skills required
• AS 9100D Lead Quality Auditor desirable
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
• Must be able to coordinate work between multiple project disciplines.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy.
• Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint.
• Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting.
• Will be required to wear fall protection, hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
• Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
• Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
• Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
• Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
• Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
• Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
• Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interprets Federal, NASA, and LASSO II safety requirements and regulations, as they apply to CRCA operations, and implements policies and procedures to ensure that these operations are in compliance.
• Investigates and provides technical solutions to compliance problems or questions/concerns received from within LASSO II, from NASA, government regulatory agencies, etc. that are consistent with organizational objectives.
• Interacts with customers to resolve safety, health, quality, and environmental issues.
• Review and approve Work Authorization Documents and conduct hazard analysis.
• Provides oversight of compliance with safety, health, quality, and environmental requirements and company policy.
• Works with CRCA operations to ensure workplace conditions comply with all applicable federal, NASA and state occupational safety, health, and quality standards.
• Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communications and customer interface skills.
• Basic understanding and broad application of occupational safety, health, and quality regulations, standards, principles, theories, and techniques.
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy.
• Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Work on other projects as assigned.
