Job Description

Responsible for day-to-day operations in Gas Control; monitoring, controlling, load forecasting, and coordinating real-time gas system activities. The Gas Controller is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the gas system. Responds promptly and effectively to abnormal operating conditions.

Responsible for gas safety compliance work and compliance with PSE's Gas Operating Standards and Gas Field Procedures when engaged in operating, maintaining, constructing or engineering PSE's natural gas system. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. This position requires 24/7 shift work, rotating between Night and Day shifts.

This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors the gas distribution system through SCADA for abnormal operating conditions, anticipating system conditions requiring action, and providing appropriate response to those conditions.
  • Assists with ordering changes in regulator settings, customer consumption rates, injection of compressed or liquid natural gas, remotely adjusts pressures, requesting operation of standby equipment, and reconciling monthly gas volumes with Williams.
  • Analyzes and reports weather data to identify any necessary cold weather actions or LNG plant operation support from gas operations.
  • Performs estimated daily gas load forecasting to secure the necessary daily contract volumes.
  • Assists with issues relating to gas control, at times serving as the liaison with Williams Northwest Pipeline, Gas Planning, System Control and Protection, Gas System Engineering, and Gas Trading.
  • Maintains records of gas characteristics such as heating value, specific gravity, odorant level, and reports any changes from normal standards.
  • Works staggered schedule to ensure availability of real-time system. Participates in emergency responsibilities and system support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years experience in gas operations or equivalent experience.
  • Operator Qualified (OQ) or obtain operator qualification within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of gas measurement theory, pressure control, instrumentation, gas metering designs, custody transfer, weather and load forecasting.
  • Familiarity with SAP, SCADA, and other communication systems.
  • Demonstrated skills with MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer sciences or related field.
  • Gas Certification Institute's course certificate on fundamentals of gas measurement.
  • Gas Certification Institute's SCADA certificate.
  • General knowledge of weather and load forecasting, load balancing.
  • Experience working shifts.

The pay range for this position is$79,200.00-$131,700.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
