Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider reports to the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology or designee and is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. T his position is a day/night rotating position with night call responsibilities. The gynecologic Advanced Practice Provider within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with and is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP functions primarily as a hospitalist in an inpatient setting performing a variety of duties to encompass but are not limited to the care and management of pre- intra and post-operative gynecologic/gynecologic oncology surgical patients and inpatients. Duties include obtaining admission history and physical ongoing assessment and intervention writing pre and postoperative orders coordination of inpatient and/or outpatient care and discharge planning. Will also first-assist in the operating room in procedures including minimally invasive surgery laparotomy and robotic surgery. The APP also provides expert consultation to hospitalized patients and patients in the Emergency Department. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient. Responsibilities: Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings. Provides leadership in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model. Oversees care coordination in acute and ambulatory care settings as feasible. Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support education and encouragement. Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics. Provides direct care to patients in acute care and ambulatory care settings. Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of theChief of Obstetrics and Gynecology or designee. Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee. Participates in the education clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers. Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise. Annually completes mandatory safety infection control BLS and ACLS. Prescriptive privileges per licensure. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Physician Assistants must be graduates of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification. Nurse Practitioners must be graduates of a Nurse Practitioner program and certified by the ANCC or by the AANP. Candidates should hold or be eligible for licensure in the state of Rhode Island as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner eligible for licensure for Federal DEA certificate. Completed approved BLS/ACLS courses within 2 years. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: One to two years* related experience. WORK ENVIRONMENT ANDPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Responds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education certification and work experience. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
