Summary of Job Duties:Overview:

The Poultry Science Communications Manager creates and shares written and visual content to promote the impact of the Poultry Science Department and the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. This role is central to highlighting the impact of our department, showing how we support the poultry industry through research, outreach, and educating the next generation of poultry industry professionals.

As a departmental communicator embedded within the Poultry Science Department, this team member will partner with UADA and Bumpers College communications teams to develop a comprehensive strategic communications plan. The communications manager will work with departmental administrators and faculty to implement this plan and promote the department's research, teaching, and extension programs through social media, photos, news stories, and more.

The Poultry Science Communications Manager will be expected to:

* Manage multiple departmental social media accounts, creating and posting engaging, platform-specific content on a regular schedule.

* Monitor and amplify relevant content from departmental faculty and other university partners.

* Write news and feature stories about poultry students and academic programs.

* Work with UADA and Bumpers College communications teams to understand and adhere to brand and review requirements.

* As requested, write and design newsletters to support departmental communications needs.

* Attend poultry science events and activities to capture photos for social media and other needs.

* Using design tools like Canva or the Adobe Design Suite, create graphics and flyers to support faculty and administration needs.

* Help coordinate and promote departmental events, whether in person or online, by developing marketing materials, creating programs and signage for the events, and working with IT as needed to develop webinars.

* Maintain website content through regular reviews and updates.

* Take advantage of appropriate internal and external professional development opportunities. Share relevant information within and outside the department through formal and informal training.

* Foster positive and collaborative relationships with faculty members around the state. Qualifications:
  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    * Bachelor of Arts/Sciences Degree.

    * Must provide at least three to five writing samples.

    * Must provide a photo and/or graphic design portfolio.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    * Two years of experience writing and editing news and web content, preferably with a focus on journalistic writing.

    * Experience working with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud products.

    * Experience with DSLR photography and/or videography.

    Knowledge, skills and abilities:

    * Strong writing and reporting techniques to craft compelling stories.

    * Excellent command of the English language, grammar, and storytelling to deliver high-quality content.

    * Adherence to journalistic integrity in all aspects of work.

    * Meticulous attention to detail and solid editing skills.

    * Ability to cultivate strong working relationships with faculty and staff.

    * Effective priority management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.

    * Willingness to acquire new skills and learn from others quickly and efficiently.
