Role Overview: As a Consumer Lending Underwriter 1, you will play a crucial role in underwriting consumer loans, ensuring efficient and effective loan decisions that adhere to Summit's standards. You will support our vision by providing prompt, courteous assistance to members and potential members, helping them manage money more effectively and enjoyably.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Underwrite consumer loan requests, considering creditworthiness, ability to repay, and collateral value.
  • Provide prompt loan decisions, meeting department standards.
  • Manage Credit Union risk through appropriate loan conditions.
  • Collaborate with the Central Consumer Processing area to meet specified timeframes for underwriting files and clearing conditions.
  • Act professionally and courteously, maintaining and expanding internal and external relationships.
  • Support and contribute to team goals, taking ownership of situations and corporate goals.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the credit union vision, long-term goals, and business plan through internal interactions, education, and day-to-day operations.


Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' experience underwriting consumer loans or successful completion of Summit CU LPS program.
  • Two additional years of experience in Credit Analysis or Mortgage Lending (Associate degree may be considered in lieu of experience).
  • Ability to attain a Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) number.
  • Excellent listening and oral/written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including interest, pay-off, dividend, and certificate penalty calculations.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and adapt to changing job responsibilities.
  • Ability to form and maintain positive relationships with all levels of staff.

Physical Demands:



  • Sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers.
  • Occasionally reach above and below shoulder level, lift/push/pull and/or carry up to 10 pounds.


Working Conditions:



  • Typical administrative setting with climate control and appropriate lighting.
  • Exposure to outdoor and traffic conditions when traveling to branches.
