The **Medical Laboratory Technician** , under the supervision of the technical supervisor, general supervisor, and/or the laboratory director, processes specimens, performs test procedures, maintains equipment, and reports test results. Demonstrates an understanding of technical processes, procedures, and quality control requirements of the testing methods authorized to perform.
**Schedule:** Part-time, Tuesday-Thursday: 8:30am-5:00pm; includes some rotating Saturdays

**Responsibilities**
**What You Can Expect:**
+ Performs only those high and/or moderate complexity tests authorized by the laboratory director and which require skills commensurate with the person's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
+ Follows the laboratory's and department's procedures for specimen handling and processing, for evaluating specimen integrity related to acceptance or rejection of samples, for all aspects of test analyses, for reagent preparation, for test result reporting, and for maintaining proper test records.
+ Completes analysis in time frame related to specimen priority (routine or stat) and that allows efficient, timely transmission of laboratory results to clinics/clients.
+ Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency test samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
+ Adheres to the laboratory's quality control procedures and documents all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
+ Follows the laboratory's corrective action policies and procedures when test systems fall outside established acceptable levels.
+ Identifies problems and recognizes unexpected malfunctions which may affect test performance or test results. The problems must be corrected or immediately reported to the general supervisor or technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
+ Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems fall outside established performance specifications.
+ Uses the Laboratory Information System to generate work-lists, enter results, and generate reports.
+ Does not report results until all test systems and quality control values are within acceptable limits.
+ Recognizes normal versus abnormal and critical patient Follows the laboratory's procedure for reporting results, including critical/panic values.

**Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:**
Must possess a current state license as a Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent terminology), general or specialty area, in the state where the employee works. For those states without a state license, a nationally recognized certification in the clinical laboratory profession is required.
**Education/Training:**
+ Associates degree in medical technology from two or four-year college or university which includes the completion of an approved medical laboratory technologist training program;OR
+ Associates degree in a science and clinical laboratory training/experience which meets the education/experience/training requirements of the state in which the employee works. OR
+ Equivalent education/experience which meets the requirements for a medical laboratory technician/clinical laboratory technician in the state in which the employee works.
