Job Summary

Directs the planning, development, organization, management, and direction of an organization and complies with Dallas College policies and procedures, state and federal laws, codes, and regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the rules and guidelines of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and other athletic associations.

  • Must be able to directs the day-to-day functions and activities of an organization in order to meet and exceed the organizational goals.

  • Must be able to develop and implement the overall planning strategies, guidelines, and operational practices of the organization.

  • Able to gather, compile, and analyze data/information and prepare reports as requested.

  • Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and projects, create detailed actions plans, as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions.

  • Capable of assessing situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization/program.

  • Must have leadership skills to motivate, supervise, delegate, plan and assess employee and student performance.

  • Ability to train and mentor faculty, students, and staff.

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to maintain consistency and compliance in the assigned areas. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external colleagues, to achieve the goals of the organization.

  • Able to represent the organization to key stakeholders and business partners by participating in various committees and meetings.

  • Ability to develop solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing methods.

  • Demonstrated ability to speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective Job Description communication tools and techniques.

  • Demonstrates interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills in order to engage effectively with students, faculty, other campuses and organizations.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in related field.

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in higher education and athletic programs.

  • Proof of current and valid Texas Driver's license Texas is required.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. workday including nights and weekends.

  • Official transcripts are required.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages all aspects of an athletic program including making travel arrangements, recruiting, scouting, maintaining the budget, ordering new equipment, conducting practices and attending all home games during the season.

  • Responsible for teaching, coaching, and mentoring the student-athletes in the classroom, practice, and at games.

  • Coordinates with coaches about the scheduling of games and practices.

  • Follows all institutional regulations as it pertains to submitting paperwork for travel, equipment orders, and athlete eligibility.

  • Organize and design expert training sessions in accordance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations while providing a safe environment for students and athletes to learn and compete with high integrity.

  • Responsible for projects and assignments as they apply to the organization and ensures they are completed on time and within the allocated budget.

  • Responsible for planning, designing, and the execution of various athletic programs in coordination with the district, national, state, and local guidelines.

  • Supervises, evaluates, and directs all aspects and facets of the athletic program(s), ensuring student-athletes meet all eligibility qualifiers.

  • Represents Dallas College at local, monthly, and annual meetings, and advises the coaching staff of any revisions that affect the student-athlete's eligibility and transferability to another college.

  • Supports and encourages good working relationships between the faculty, personnel, and students to achieve organizational goals and work effectively to accomplish the mission, vision, and goals of the organization.

  • Acts as a trusted advisor and inspires confidence to support the objectives of the district.

  • Assess current and prospective coaches based on the discipline and team goals.

  • Works in conjunction with the business office to ensure all paperwork is completed and meets tight deadlines as established the NJCAA.

  • Coordinates monthly staff meetings, attends Dallas Athletic Conference, and Athletic Directors meetings.

  • Collects and maintains student-athlete data in order to provide accurate information for reports and/or information about the progression of the athletic programs.

  • Supervises more than two (2) full time employees and manages campus athletic budget.

  • Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
