Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems

The School of Science and Engineering grants degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. MS and PhD degrees are granted in Cell Biology & Biophysics, or Molecular Biology & Biochemistry. The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences supports research in many areas including biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology, developmental biology, neurobiology, RNA biology, and virology.

UMKC is rated R1 by the Carnegie Research Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Our research supports advances in defense, health care, public safety, technology and more aimed at a brighter and more advanced future for all. We collaborate across campus and the UM System, and encourage our students to participate in our research and initiate their own at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The School of Science and Engineering recently added a new $40M ($23M building and $17M equipment), 58,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility to support multidisciplinary education, research, and economic development initiatives. The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences is one of the four divisions in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) established through UMKC Forward, a university initiative to create multidisciplinary learning, academics, research, and outreach.

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences is instrumental to the University of Missouri System's NextGen Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center (dSAIC), which supports university research across the state and plays a critical role in the region's health, business, and workforce development. dSAIC is based at UMKC and operates in partnership with the University of Missouri-Columbia. Job Description

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems in the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We encourage applications from individuals who use Microbiology and/or Biochemistry and/or Bioinformatics to address fundamental life science questions. Preferences will be given to candidates working on prokaryotic or eukaryotic single-celled organisms.

The primary attributes we seek in candidates are:

1. demonstrated excellence in research, as the faculty member would be expected to initiate or continue an independent, extramurally funded research program,

2. potential or demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and

3. commitment to provide service to the profession, the university, the division and the community.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a PhD, MD, or DVM and at least two years of postdoctoral experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience and evidence of success in externally funded research. This is a 9-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) tenure/tenure-track faculty appointment.
