GENERAL FUNCTION Essilor is seeking a dynamic Polymer Scientist to fill this entry level role to work on innovative processes, machines, and materials. This position will report to the Senior Manager and will have the opportunity to work within a rich and diverse resource team collaborating with others worldwide in R&D, Engineering, Operations, vendors, etc. Position is located in our Group Lens Innovation facility in Dudley, Massachusetts MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct 'hands-on' experimental, simulation, and modeling work on different optical elements
- Propose, modify, and optimize methodologies for characterization of textured plastic films and laminates
- *Conduct optical materials characterization, identify existing tools, and develop new fixtures & methodologies to quantify visual acuity, optical power, etc.
- Obtain meaningful instrumentation data on micro-textured samples prepared on films, laminates, and integrated into lenses.
- Integrate optical instrumentation, optical simulation software, and imaging analysis in a product development environment
- Develop optical metrology techniques for both off-line and in-line characterization of textured materials
- Provide data based evidence that developed processes meet product requirements through design of experiments and statistical process control
- Use optical modeling and simulation tools (Ansys Optics, Zemax, etc.)
- Participate as an active member of a research and product development team.
- Support innovation linked to active programs or studies
- Provide oral and written reports for new or improved analytical methodologies, process modifications, etc.
- Use appropriate data management and capitalization tools
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree requirements - A Masters/PhD in relevant field (e.g.: Engineering, Optics, Imaging, Materials, Physics, or related discipline) with 0-5 years of practical experience with relevant equipment and processes equivalent education and experience in lieu of a doctorate degree will be considered
- Ability to document process and experimental results with proper lab notebook entries, technical memos, patent applications, and presentations
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional working groups, skill levels and expertise in a global environment
- Demonstrate a spirit of innovation, a willingness to suggest and the ability to support the implementation of modifications of instrumentation, machinery, and processes using for developing new products.
- Flexibility in work assignments to accommodate group and personal goals
- Proactive in learning about many technologies
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% annually
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Optical experience preferred
- ABO certification a plus
