The Role

As the EVP, Chief Legal Officer, you will be the chief legal adviser to CEO, Kate Johnson, and the Senior LeadershipTeam (SLT), and a key member of the corporate strategy team focusing on the most important legal and businessstrategies facing the organization. You will oversee all legal aspects of Lumen's business, including corporategovernance, capital markets, compliance, litigation, intellectual property, regulatory, and contractual matters. You willalso lead the public policy function, representing Lumen's interests with local, state, and federal authorities.

The Main Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing the legal and public policy strategy and agenda in alignment with Lumen's vision andgoals, balancing business risks appropriately against business objectives.
  • Providing sound and timely legal advice and guidance to the CEO, SLT, and other stakeholders on a variety ofissues and risks.
  • Managing the delivery of legal services and resources across the organization, ensuring quality, efficiency, andvalue.
  • Negotiating complex and high-value agreements, dispute resolutions, board and shareholder matters, and othertransactions.
  • Building and leading a high-performing team of legal and public policy professionals, fostering the Lumen 8culture.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external parties, such as regulators, external counsel,politicians, and clients.
  • Overseeing the global, corporate compliance programs proactively anticipating and identifying potential impactsto the organization; including focus on regulatory compliance, data privacy, FCPA, antitrust and other applicablelaws and regulations.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a global workforce of 250 to support an aggressive legal, compliance andregulatory agenda.
  • Ensure compliance with Lumen's public reporting requirements; including financial filings.
  • Developing and maintain strong partnerships with the board of directors, providing advice and counsel.

The Chief Legal Officer will ideally be based in Denver, Seattle, or potentially other locations on the West Coast or in the US, provided they will spend significant time in Denver or Seattle.

What We Look For in a Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BSc degree in Law & JD degree from an accredited institution. MA or BSc in Business Administration is desirable
  • 15+ years of experience with a proven track record of leading the legal and public policy functions of a large and complex organization in a highly competitive landscape, preferably in the telco and technology sector
  • A broad and deep knowledge of corporate law, litigation, labor law, and other relevant areas
  • Experience working in a regulated environment
  • An ability to develop and implement legal and public policy strategies and execute against these strategies to support Lumen's business objectives and values
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with the ability to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a talented team
  • A high degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas, with the ability to inspire trust and confidence from internal and external stakeholders
  • An excellent judgement and analytical skills, with the ability to anticipate and mitigate legal issues and risks
  • A first class interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal and public policy matters in a clear and concise manner and develop strong partnerships across the broader ecosystem
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$650,000.00 - $750,000.00 in all states.
