Summary: The Environmental Technician/Field Scientist is responsible for the collection of samples from environmental media (including soil, water, groundwater, waste), completion of field analysis, preparation of complete field documentation, and field equipment maintenance. Work includes activities on environmentally contaminated sites and may include hazardous wastes and/or chemicals. Your work will occur on diverse project sites and to provide high quality service to our clients. Travel and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use required. Overtime may be required. You must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a pre-employment HAZWOPER physical with drug screening.
Primary Responsibilities and JOB DUTIES:
- Collection of samples from environmental media (including soil, water, groundwater, wastewater effluent).
- Completion of field sampling and analysis.
- Preparation of complete field documentation.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Work includes activities on environmentally contaminated sites and may include hazardous wastes and/or chemicals. PPE use required.
- Majority of work time will be spent in the field and traveling to and from project sites.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate's degree in environmental science or equivalent with 2 years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or a related field.
- Specific experience that will be considered to meet this requirement includes:
- Knowledge of field sampling of industrial wastewater, groundwater, soil, sediment, and/or air media.
- Perform data collection and maintenance; interpret field equipment readings and data in support of data collection.

- Basic computer literacy is required; must include working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.

- Ability to use field equipment and tools properly and safely, including field troubleshooting.
- Ability to understand, follow and convey written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
OTHER REQUIRED CRITERIA:
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certificate/8-Hour Refresher training or ability to obtain is required. Training may be provided by KEMRON when appropriate.
- Current valid driver's license and ability to pass a HAZWOPER medical exam and drug screen.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
- An associate's degree in environmental science or other science disciplines is preferred. Examples include:
- Geosciences
- Chemistry
- Geology
- Experience with remediation systems operation and long-term monitoring (LTM) is preferred but not required.
- 10-Hour OSHA Construction Training is preferred.
- Previous experience working in an industrial setting.
WORK CONTEXT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
- Regularly works in outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, such as heat and humidity, rain, extreme cold with snow/ice.
- Must be able to work in a standing position for the majority of a workday.
- May work in an environment with close proximity to moving vehicles and mechanical parts.
- Must have the ability to work in full PPE including respiratory protection which may include SCBA, APR, SAR.
- Must understand and have the ability to follow KEMRON SOPs for specific task(s).
- Must be able to travel to work/project sites and traverse all types of terrain, often only on foot.
- Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned tasks.
- Must have the ability to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one workstation to another within an office environment.
- May require after hours and weekend work, including travel based on project specific needs.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
