Job Summary:

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for procuring materials for machinery. This individual will work closely with the shop floor and management.

Essential/Key Functions:

  • Responsible for following the strategic operating plans to ensure the business has appropriate product availability to meet current and projected market demand.
  • Determine safety stock levels for assigned parts.
  • Maintain and update master files - item master, item branch plant, etc.
  • Maintain A, B, and C classifications by SKU number.
  • Maintain reorder points and min/max levels by SKU number.
  • Administer interplant warehouse transfers.
  • Identify potential product shortages.
  • Make recommendations for productivity or method improvements.
  • Execute POs to MRP driven plan.
  • Follow the standard purchasing process to buy goods and services to ensure an adequate supply of standard items.
  • Update POs with supplier confirmation information (delivery dates, quantities, etc.).
  • Process purchase orders and review each for quantity, price, specification, and delivery requirements.
  • Respond to internal RFIs.
  • Coordinate material deliveries into the supply chain to ensure on-time product delivery.
  • Review and react to MRP messages to ensure a steady flow of materials.
  • Expedite and/or research missing, late, or incorrect orders.
  • Monitor and assign ship dates to backordered materials.
  • Discuss and resolve pricing, quality, or delivery issues with management assistance.
  • Quote all non-standard purchase orders, needs, and new engineering releases.
  • Process drop shipments.
  • Determine Supply/Demand - Answer Messages to Create Work Orders
  • Create and maintain Injection screw production schedule
  • Use a schedule along with SMED techniques to coordinate lead time reductions

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • A high School diploma is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain or a related field, or 2-3 years of buying/planning, or 2-3 years of product knowledge is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • JDE (E1) experience preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of supply chain metrics.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional work environment.
  • Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
