Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Instructional Technology and Design is a fully online program offered for those who want to work as instructional technology professionals in K-12, and/or as instructional designers and training specialists in a wide array of environments including higher education, non-profit, government, corporate, and military settings. Students in this program gain hands-on experience in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a broad range of educational media and technology for innovative teaching, training, and development. |
Position Summary |
The Department of Information, Library, & Research Sciences invites applications and nominations for a Clinical Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will serve in the Masters of Instructional Technology and Design, which is a fully online program. This position is a non-tenure 9-month appointment with a two-year renewable contract. Summer teaching opportunities are also available. Clinical faculty members have assigned responsibilities in teaching and service. The position will be effective August 1, 2025 and salary is commensurate with qualifications with a salary range of 62,000 to $67,000.
This position will join one existing
MSITD faculty member serving as primary instructors for core and concentration classes. In addition, this job will involve engaging in outreach to build relationships with the community and recruit new students. The successful candidate will also serve as an academic advisor to a portion of graduate students. There are additional teaching opportunities in the
ALA accredited Master of Library & Information Science (
MLIS) and Educational Research, Methodology (
ERM) programs.
Responsibilities
- Experience in online education is essential to this position as this is a synchronously presented online only program. High caliber online teaching as well as service in all related fields will be considered with special interest in: Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Computer Interaction
- Program coordination and development
- Developing courses for the degree
- Advising students at the master's level
- Recruitment of students to the program
- Community engagement and service to the Department, School, and University

Minimum Qualifications |
- This position requires a doctorate in instructional technology, instructional design or a related field, preferably with professional experience in the field. Consideration will be given to candidates with applicable experience who have not yet earned their doctorate at the time of application, but who are engaged in an active doctoral program.We are especially interested in candidates with professional experience in environments such as higher education, non-profit, government, corporate, and military settings.
- Applicants should demonstrate a defined program of research/professional background with strong foundations focused on technology-based learning. Multiple areas of expertise will be considered: online/virtual/multimodal learning, self-regulated learning, adaptive learning systems, or corporate training and workplace learning.
- Experience in recruitment, admissions, and advising of master's level students.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Strong preference for applicants with program coordinator/development experience.
- Experience in the administration of K-12 instructional technology departments and familiarity with licensure in North Carolina (the 077 license) is desired.
