This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

In this role you will work as the Vehicle Fault Protection and Behavior Lead, ensuring that vehicle behavior is designed and understood by all parties both internally on the Transporter team (vehicle level and subsystems) and externally within the greater lunar program architecture. As a part of vehicle behavior, Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) will be a large focus of this role. Additionally, modeling the vehicle behavior in diagrams, as applicable/useful, such as State Machines, Functional Flow Block Diagrams, and timelines to ensure that vehicle behavior is helping inform the design.

Responsibilities:

  • Design vehicle systems for Fault Protection / Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR), including performing fault tree analyses.
  • Design and model vehicle states, modes, conditions, activities, and functions.
  • Plan and design required system autonomy.
  • Support the lunar program team with system-of-system models and timelines as they relate to transporter systems.
  • Assist with systems safety work, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Highly knowledgeable in systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety-critical systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems and deliver results-oriented solutions.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Electrical, or a related technical field.
  • Expertise in multiple subsystems, particularly Guidance Navigation & Control, and Flight Software.
  • Experience with the full spacecraft design life cycle.
  • Experience working on large, complex programs with multiple partners.
  • Experience in requirements definition and management, preferably using Jama.
  • Proficiency with software tools such as Git, Jama, Cameo, Confluence, and Jira.

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $107,707.00-$150,789.45;WA applicants is $117,498.00-$164,497.20
