I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President - Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, this position works in full collaboration with the EVP- CFO leadership team to meet their priorities and goals. The Director of Administration manages all administrative and operational activities and workflows within the EVP- CFO Organization. This is a full-time, on-site position located at the GW Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The primary duties of this position include:

  • Oversees the management of the EVP-CFO's calendar, travel, and engagement with external committees.
  • Directs and leads administrative personnel, to include direct supervision and allocation of resources between and among departments.
  • Demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Assesses staffing levels, quality, and make recommendations for short- and long-range improvements to administrative support.
  • Reviews matters to be brought to the EVP-CFO's attention and prepares background information.
  • Analyzes and manages sensitive issues, exhibiting a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Works closely with leadership to strategize and report on any administrative or operational challenges or necessary improvements.
  • Manages strategic projects, assists with gathering requirements, establishing roles, responsibilities and project timelines and tracking action items.
  • Supports the EVP-CFO by assisting with solutions to problems that arise by identifying issues, determining the approaches to be taken and the methodologies to be used. Facilitates the development, coordination, and approval of proposed solutions with all necessary parties. Takes appropriate actions to resolve the problems in collaboration with all parties involved.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and facilitates internal and external meetings & events at all levels. Develops, recommends, and manages budgets and business activities to ensure compliance with established university guidelines.
  • Assists with EVP-CFO written communications, including presentations, speeches, news stories, website management and content, talking points, and correspondence as needed. Develops these materials or provides oversight to the development of these materials.
  • Prepares all materials for presentation to the Board of Trustees. Oversees coordinated administrative support of all EVP-CFO events.
  • Prepares and distributes information for regular news feeds, updates and other information coming from the EVP-CFO office.
  • Manages and coordinates support for all searches for senior leadership positions in the EVP-CFO Finance division (i.e., AVP P2P, Controller, etc.).
  • Facilitates onboarding for all senior administrators and support staff hires within the EVP-CFO division.
  • Coordinates with IT shared services on infrastructure and support along with asset management.
  • Partners with HR representatives on human resource actions.
  • Serves on various committees with or on behalf of the EVP-CFO/SAVP and leads various projects.
  • On behalf of the EVP-CFO/SAVP, liaises with GW community partners and offices, such as the President's Office, Provost Office, DAR, Safety & Security, etc.
  • Serves as the space planner for the EVP-CFO office, to include interacting with building management and other internal staff on office space matters. Coordinates furniture and office procurement for all major offices.


This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff both directly and indirectly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong writer and persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong leadership experience
  • Able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty and vendors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect

Hiring Range $88,562.15 - $154,055.84
