Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under direction, the Temporary Research Assistant supports research conducted by Principal Investigator, within the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Psychiatry. The Principal Investigator's program of research spans the substance use continuum and ranges from preventing substance use initiation to improving treatment, engagement, retention, and care of individuals in recovery from substance use disorders.

The Temporary Research Assistant will provide research, administrative and programmatic support to the Principal Investigator, faculty, and other professional staff within the laboratory. Supports grant funded research and demonstration projects.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assists on research project activities may include recruiting study participants, obtaining informed consent for study participation, assisting with programming questionnaires, troubleshooting technology challenges on tablets, and maintaining necessary study documentation. Project activities may also include tracking progress, organizing evaluation protocols, managing paperwork, preparing materials for meetings.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of surveys and facilitating focus groups and/or interviews and may involve basic analysis of quantitative and qualitative data with guidance of PI and related faculty. Assistance with preparing publications and presentations may also be requested.
  • Regularly communicates with Principal Investigator and related faculty and staff on assigned projects.
  • Provides assistance to PI and related faculty/staff by coordinating projects, programs, functions, and organizing project operations.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus.
  • Experience and proficiency using PC software programs including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Adobe Professional and Internet required.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation to be able to drive to Treatment Centers in New Jersey 3 times a week.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to complete assigned work assignments with great attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, including ability to serve as the proofreader for reports and other written materials.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work well and communicate professionally with research study participants and all levels of internal management and staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve with minimal supervision, but with appropriate judgment (i.e., knowing when to ask for help).
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple activities and ensure the timely completion of assignments and in meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional document creation and markup is required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Related research experience.
  • Experience using statistical software such as Stata, SPSS and SAS.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and driving. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert up to 15 pounds.
  • Work Environment: This position requires on-site travel to partner treatment centers. Additional work can be conducted in the Office environment. Moderate noise.

Special Conditions
  • The Research Assistant may be asked to work weekends (i.e. not standard working hours).
