The Engineer I will work in the Residential Outdoor Split AC Products team that is part of the Unitary Products Group Ducted Systems for JCI. This position will be located in the Wichita, KS plant and will report to the Engineering Manager for Residential Indoor Coils and Air Handlers Products.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

This position will create value for JCI stakeholders by implementing new Indoor Coils and Air Handlers designs, various cost, product, and process improvements to residential HVAC systems through the application of proven Engineering principles. This position supports, plans, conducts, and oversees new product Engineering projects with significant magnitude and scope, involving integration among diverse system's and culture. This position will work/collaborate with other cross functional disciplines such as Product Management, Manufacturing, Production, Quality, Procurement, and Field Service teams to launch new products, and solve problems to satisfy customer needs. This position will also be expected to lead smaller scale projects and support larger scale projects under the guidance of both Senior Engineer and Engineering Manager.

HOW YOU WILL DO IT:

  • Follow established safety procedures and wear the required personal protection equipment.

  • Complete projects in a timely and efficient manner to ensure that design objectives are met.

  • Creates and develops product information and system concepts to fulfill business needs.

  • Lead smaller scale projects and support large scale projects under the guidance of both the Senior Engineer and Engineering Manager.

  • Follows Engineering or technology principles to complete assignments.

  • Identifies, investigates, and recommends improvements in products, systems, or processes to improve the application or operation.

  • Conducts Engineering systems analysis and experimentation to analyze application or operational feasibility and explore alternatives.

  • Develops working prototypes, creates detailed plans, test outlines, and executes tests for industry and agency compliance.

  • Plans and schedules projects, tests, and Engineering changes to optimize utilization while meeting established time schedules and budgets.

  • Performs tradeoff between implementation, schedule, cost, resource constraints, andrecommends alternatives.

  • Provides technical feedback and consultation to other organizations involved in system design or implementation activities.

  • Participates in technology transfer initiatives among IT departments, R&D, and Product Engineering.

  • Prepares product documentation, operating instructions, and reviews related technical literature.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience working with product or system design in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Self-motivated with a determination to exceed project objectives.

  • Ability to organize and manage simultaneous tasks and projects.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective and professional communication.

  • Ability to make decisions quickly in order to maintain project schedules.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations and environments.

  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Windows operating system in conjunction with the following Microsoft Office modules: Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.

  • Ability to learn system modeling techniques and theoretical reasoning in the support, creation, and design of complex systems.

PREFERRED:

  • Familiarity with residential HVAC equipment including condensing units, air handlers, indoor coils.

  • Familiarity with industry standards including AHRI, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA, NEC, UL/CSA, etc.

  • Experience in the HVAC field service environment.

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

  • Strong electrical aptitude including unit wiring, controls, and instrumentation.
