RK&K is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery Transportation Projects throughout the firm. In this role, you'll work under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers on projects of all delivery types, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3, and other Alternative Delivery Transportation projects. You'll assist in preparing roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and contribute to technical reports, modeling, and plan production tasks.

This is a remote-friendly position; candidates located anywhere in the U.S. will be considered. Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Essential Functions




  • Support the preparation of roadway plans, profiles, and 3D models using OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Assist senior staff in the design of highways, interchanges, and other transportation infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documents including design reports, cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to help deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs.
  • Participate in design-build and alternative delivery project tasks under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Attend project meetings, site visits, and coordination calls as needed.
  • Stay current on VDOT and other DOT standards and help ensure compliance in all work products.



Required Skills and Experience




  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Four (4) + years of experience in transportation engineering.
  • Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway design and modeling.
  • EIT certification required
  • Interest in working on alternative delivery projects such as Design-Build or P3.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset.



Preferred Skills and Experience




  • PE license in Virginia or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Experience supporting design-build or fast-paced project delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with applicable state DOT processes.
  • Exposure to working with contractors or in multi-firm project delivery teams.
