Essential Job Duties |
At the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (
CCEE), research is more than academic-it's deeply practical, boldly innovative, and globally relevant. Our teams are tackling today's toughest challenges: improving sanitation for billions, engineering smarter transportation systems, developing robots to monitor construction safety, and understanding how climate events reshape our coastlines.
As a Post Award Specialist, you will play a critical role in making this research possible. You won't be in the lab or the field, but your work will be just as impactful. You'll bring your research administration expertise to manage a diverse portfolio of ~60 sponsored projects-ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless coordination from award setup through closeout.
You'll be a trusted advisor to faculty, a liaison across campus, and a vital member of a collaborative team dedicated to making research thrive. Working closely with our research administration lead, you'll take ownership of post-award functions and assist with select pre-award activities that help secure and manage major grants from sponsors like the
EPA,
NSF,
NASA, and
NCDOT.
What You'll Do:
- Manage financial activity across research projects-tracking budgets, forecasting expenses, and supporting long-term planning
- Guide proposals through the submission process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor guidelines
- Navigate complex policies to ensure compliance with sponsor terms, Cost Accounting Standards, and university regulations
- Coordinate release time, summer salary, cost sharing, and effort reporting through TEARS
- Meet regularly with faculty to answer questions, resolve issues, and provide strategic financial insight
- Monitor active awards and step in early to address potential challenges
What Sets This Role Apart:
- You'll be entrusted with autonomy and responsibility across a diverse project portfolio
- You'll work at the intersection of research strategy, financial stewardship, and policy compliance
- Your decisions directly impact research success and departmental financial integrity
- You'll build meaningful partnerships with faculty, university offices, and external sponsors
If you're a collaborative problem-solver, committed to supporting impactful research through accurate, timely, and compliant financial management, we encourage you to apply.
