The Bernstein Lab is recruiting a Research Technician I or II to perform routine laboratory tasks and experiments to help support a lab under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.



Responsibilities

    Tissue culture maintenance
  • Protein expression and purification
  • Antibody screening
  • Basic flow cytometry assays
  • Re-stocking lab supplies
  • Processing biohazard waste
  • Making reagents


Qualifications

Research Technician I:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Independent research experience separate from school lab experience

Research Technician II:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Competency in basic tissue culture, molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR and gel electrophoresis, and a familiarity with current understanding of HIV
  • Detail oriented, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prior experience in cell subset isolation from peripheral blood
  • Prior experience in multi-parametric flow-cytometric phenotyping of human samples, particularly FACS sorting and analysis using FlowJo
  • Prior experience in computational analysis using R/Python/equivalent, or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with biosafety 2 and 2/3 laboratory practices and bloodborne pathogen preventions
  • Being comfortable working with rare and important primary human biologic specimens

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR BOTH LEVELS:

  • An undergraduate degree in a science related field, with prior introductory biology and chemistry.
  • A basic understanding of antibodies, protein expression, and cell signaling.
  • Willingness to commit to a position for one year.
  • To be successful in this position, the technician must be detailed oriented, organized, capable of maintaining thorough records, and be able to work efficiently under supervision.
  • Attendance of lab meetings and involvement in a research project will be encouraged.

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
