Description The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and managing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment within the manufacturing plant. This role involves conducting safety training, inspections, and risk assessments, as well as ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. The Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting a culture of safety and preventing workplace accidents and injuries.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company standards.
- Conduct safety training sessions for employees, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training on topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits of the plant to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance issues. Document findings and work with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes. Prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
- Ensure the plant is in compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and other relevant safety laws. Keep up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and communicate these changes to the relevant parties.
- Lead or participate in safety committees and meetings, fostering collaboration between departments to improve safety practices and address safety concerns. Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by encouraging safe work practices, recognizing safe behavior, and addressing unsafe behavior promptly.
- Ensure the proper use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees. Conduct regular checks to ensure PPE is being used correctly and is in good condition.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety training, incidents, inspections, and corrective actions. Prepare reports and present safety metrics to management.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices in workplace safety. Familiarity with hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively train employees, report to management, and collaborate with other departments.
- High level of attention to detail to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead safety initiatives, influence a safety-focused culture, and motivate employees to adhere to safety protocols.
Minimum Experience & Education:
- 2 years' previous experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, is required.
- A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications, such as OSHA 30-hour certification, CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
- Additional safety certifications, such as First Aid/CPR are highly desirable.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
