General summary: This is a Researcher 1 position in the laboratories of Brad Blaser, MD, PhD (75%) and Amanda Toland, PhD (25%) at The Ohio State University. The position involves 25% lab management duties and 75% wet lab work, as outlined below. The work will primarily take place in Wiseman Hall on the OSU Biomedical Campus. The Researcher 1 will meet weekly with Drs. Blaser and Toland to review progress and assign new tasks. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of principal investigators, the Researcher 1 will: Perform experiments, which may be moderate to complex with increasing independence Record data and analyze results using basic statistics Perform tasks related to zebrafish husbandry, DNA/RNA microinjection, tissue harvest, and microscopy Use standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques such as cloning, in vitro transcription, nucleic acid purification, PCR, next generation sequencing library preparation and immunoblotting. Help prepare data for presentation and publication Prepare laboratory reagents and maintain instruments and equipment Maintain supply inventory in accordance with departmental procedures Place orders in Workday Update IACUC and IBC protocols Ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs and all regulatory requirements All other duties, as assigned Supervisory responsibilities: May be responsible for training and orienting new staff in zebrafish husbandry, imaging, and molecular biology techniques. Working conditions: Laboratory environment: working with animals, toxic chemicals, biohazards and substances emitting unpleasant odors is expected. A dedicated desk and laptop computer will be provided. The option to work remotely is available for certain lab management and data analysis tasks, at the discretion of the principal investigators.
