Airport Fire Captain Potential future hiring in the state of New Jersey Job Summary: The Fire Captain or Battalion Fire Chief is responsible for supervision of a shift of Airport Crash Rescue Firefighters engaged in fire prevention, fire fighting and crash rescue operations and the provision of emergency medical and crisis response services. Essential Functions: The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of Rural Metro Fire. * Ability to act in a DUTY capacity in order to respond to emergency calls. * Supervising day-to-day ARFF functions, developing staff to a high degree of competence, and overseeing the assignment of subordinates. * Enforcing discipline, good order, and the highest standards of personal and unit probity. * Monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods, procedures, techniques, and equipment utilized in the conduct of all activities and making recommendations to eliminate inadequacies or improving operations, service and staffing levels, while promoting change management to ensure successful completion; * Analyzing problems, identifying solutions and implementing recommendations in support of Aviation Department goals, policies and procedures. * Supervising staff by clearly defining expectations and assignments, providing clear orders and instructions, maintaining approachability and listening to others, showing concern for others, exhibiting flexibility, decisiveness and calm demeanor in high-pressure situations and contingencies, motivating others and otherwise providing effective leadership. * Develop programs and procedures to ensure best practices and to maintain standards. * Working with ARFF Command staff, develop programs and standard operating procedures to ensure best practices and to maintain standards. * Participate in the implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures for the recording, indexing, filing, and retrieving of active documents and the storage of inactive documents; assist in development and maintenance of the work plan for the records management function. * Ensuring compliance with Part 139 ARFF requirements in accordance with FAA Certification Standards and other federal, state and local laws. * Ensuring the ARFF Cadre adheres to all legal, technical and administrative guidelines. * Ensuring compliance Part 139.321, Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials and NFPA publications. * Assist the ARFF Fire Chief with designing and conducting emergency workshops and exercises to train staff and local emergency response personnel. * Making recommendations to the ARFF Fire Chief regarding hiring, training, discipline, and promotion of subordinates. * Make recommendations on annual budget requirements. * Maintaining technical and supervisory proficiency; organize and prioritize projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner. * Attend and participate in professional group meetings, maintaining awareness of new trends in aircraft fire fighting and rescue, and incorporating new developments as appropriate. * Must be willing to work nonconventional work hours as assigned work shift, as well days off to attend training, inspections, emergencies etc. The above listed functions are not necessarily all the essential functions. Job duties and functions may be expanded or reduced by management based on future changing needs and job requirements. Qualifications: * Minimum 21 years of age * Minimum five (5) years full time firefighting experience or three (3) years of ARFF experience * US Citizen with GED or High School Diploma * Valid drivers' license and driving history acceptable to the customer * Ability to pass pre-employment Firefighter physical, Drug Screen, and Physical Ability Test (PAT) * Ability to pass U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprint and background investigations. * Ability to obtain driver qualifications on all apparatus within one (1) year of appointment * NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 or ability to obtain within 60 days of appointment * Current AHA CPR (Professional Rescuer Level) Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: * IFSAC or NPQS Firefighter I/II * IFSAC or NPQS Haz Mat Operations * IFSAC or NPQS Airport Firefighter * IFSAC or NPQS Fire Officer * Must possess State EMT-B, EMT-A or Paramedic certification (dependent on contractual obligations) * Meet and maintain the ability to drive airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the Non-Movement Area and Movement Area on the Air Operations Area (AOA), including aircraft crash/rescue and structural firefighting apparatus. * As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of the airport's emergency response, and must respond to airport incidents, as requested/required.
