The purpose of this position is to provide semi-skilled and skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on the water and wastewater systems. This is accomplished by servicing equipment pertaining to water distribution/wastewater collection systems, wastewater facilities, and well-field treatment and delivery systems. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned. Shift work, weekends, holidays, standby duty, and callback duty may be required.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • Ability to perform skilled work and maintenance on Water Production equipment and assist in occasional training to other less skilled Utility Systems Operators. Informs Lead of project performance and provides general input on employee's performance.
  • Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
  • Ability to deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
  • Will assist in the installation, maintenance, inspections, and repair of equipment, machinery and systems related to Water Production.
  • Ability to respond and troubleshoot customer concerns about water pressure as well as water quality concerns including taste, odor and color complaints.
  • Ability to work with other departments regarding water quality and environmental compliance.
  • Investigates and resolves technical problems and customer complaints and informs management of operational issues, needs or concerns.
  • Assist in training and providing technical assistance to staff.
  • Ability to oversee proper preventative maintenance procedures; maintains records pertaining to maintenance schedules, including activities, labor and cost using Computerized Maintenance Management System.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:



  • High school graduation or equivalency.


Experience:



  • 1 year of previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.


Physical Demands:



  • A main requirement of the job is physical labor.


Licenses and Certifications:



  • Valid Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Tanker and HazMAT endorsement.
  • One (1) Grade I Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Certification (ADEQ) in appropriate field upon hire.
  • Must obtain Grade II ADEQ Certification in appropriate field within one year of hire.
