About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join our Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) group supporting safety-critical systems within the nuclear industry. This role involves performing technical IV&V activities while also taking ownership of project-level oversight, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring alignment of IV&V tasks with the cost, schedule, and quality objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software verification and validation, with experience in regulated environments such as the nuclear, aerospace, or medical sectors. This position requires a balance of deep technical ability, leadership, and project oversight.

You will report to the Manager, IV&V and be located at Warrendale, PA office on a hybrid basis.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform IV&V activities across the software development lifecycle, including requirements and design evaluations, requirements traceability analyses, code inspections, and module/unit-level software testing.
  • Create V&V Plans, verification reports, test reports, and summary reports.
  • Lead and mentor junior IV&V engineers, providing technical guidance, reviews, and skills development.
  • Monitor and manage the health of IV&V project scope, including tracking progress against schedule and budget, and identifying risks or issues.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including QA, Engineering, and Licensing teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements (e.g., IEEE Std. 1012, NRC Regulatory Guides).
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of IV&V processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and reviews, ensuring documentation and evidence meet regulatory expectations.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development or testing, including at least 5 years in verification and validation roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading or mentoring engineering teams.
  • Solid understanding of IV&V principles and techniques, particularly in safety-critical systems.
  • Proficiency in software development practices, tools, and languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, or Java).
