United States, Michigan, Detroit
May 19, 2025

Inside the Role

Daimler Trucks Cost Engineering is working at the interface of Strategy, R&D, Purchasing and Controlling with the clear target to ensure Daimler's profitability as well as the competitiveness of our products.
The Cost Engineering (CE) Department is responsible for calculating should cost and tooling cost for series production and new projects. Through the use of standard tools, databases, and the global CE network in Europe, Brazil, Japan and India, CE generates cost transparency and develops strategies for cost avoidance/reduction.
Cost Engineering works in collaboration with the Program Management and Finance departments to determine the bottom-up target costs of new product projects for all powertrain components. We support the Purchasing Department in negotiations of new parts and tooling based on REC (Reference Calculation), avoiding cost increases, and establishing long term strategies with Daimler suppliers.
CE also works with the Engineering Department to achieve design-to-target goals.
Cost Engineering is a key player in cost reduction efforts, either directly based on REC discussions and workshops, or globally through the Lead Cost planner structure.
With the overall shift from combustion driven powertrain to alternative technologies and additionally more focus on e-powertrain components, we are specifically looking for a candidate with education and/or experience in e-mobility in addition to combustion technology.
