SALARY RANGE: $130k - $195k

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership and innovation in support of the Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Sensing Directorate's OPIR Tools, Applications, and Processing Laboratory (OPIR TAP Lab) and the Boulder Ground Innovation Facility (BGIF) in Colorado Springs. This role is central to advancing remote sensing capabilities and directly supporting the Strategic Missile Warning Ground Acquisition Delta's Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) mission. The Chief Engineer will drive infrastructure modernization, leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), data fusion, and automation, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to shape the future of remote sensing data applications and mission success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, including at least 5 years in software development, testing, and integration within DoD or national security environments

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Technology Management, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Demonstrated leadership in technical project management, systems engineering, and stakeholder collaboration

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and guide all systems engineering efforts supporting the OPIR TAP Lab and BGIF

  • Define, prioritize, and execute technical requirements, translating them into actionable and innovative solutions

  • Conduct comprehensive systems engineering trade studies to evaluate and recommend strategic technology investments

  • Develop and maintain an Integration Roadmap for BGIF tenants, optimizing activities, investments, and upgrades to maximize efficiency and control lifecycle costs

  • Lead initiatives to explore emerging technology trends, recommending strategic courses of action to ensure technological leadership and operational excellence
