Overview

The Asset & Wealth Management Risk and Governance Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the effective management of risk and governance related to new business activities, products, and services within Goldman Sachs' Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) division. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders across the organization to ensure that new initiatives are thoroughly assessed for potential risks, comply with applicable regulations, and align with the firm's overall risk appetite and governance framework. The Associate will contribute to the development and implementation of risk management strategies, policies, and procedures related to new activity engagement and provide ongoing oversight. The role also includes active stakeholder engagement and managing deliverables within project timelines.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential:



  • Participate in the risk assessment process for new products, services, business initiatives, and strategic changes within AWM. This includes identifying potential risks (e.g., market risk, credit risk, operational risk, compliance risk, reputational risk), evaluating their potential impact and likelihood, and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on new activities to identify potential risks and compliance gaps.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the AWM governance framework, including policies, procedures, and controls related to new activity engagement.
  • Ensure that new activities adhere to established governance standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Document risk assessments clearly and concisely, ensuring that all relevant information is captured and tracked for ongoing oversight.
  • Establish and maintain a framework for ongoing monitoring and oversight of new activities, including the tracking of key risk indicators (KRIs) and the escalation of potential issues.
  • Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including business units, compliance, legal, technology, and operations, to ensure that new activities are effectively risk-managed and compliant.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units on risk management and governance best practices related to new activities, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Actively participate in relevant committees and working groups, representing the risk and governance perspective.
  • Assist in the preparation of risk reports and presentations for senior management and risk committees.
  • Track the implementation Day 1 / Day 2 risk mitigation strategies and monitor their effectiveness, reporting on progress and any deviations.


Skills & Experience We're Looking For:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience of experience in risk management, compliance, or governance within the asset and wealth management industry.
  • Exposure to financial services, operational risk, audit or risk management a plus
  • Familiarity with asset and wealth management products, services, and regulations (e.g., mutual funds, ETFs, hedge funds, private equity, wealth advisory).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and project management tools.
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to manage deliverables within project timelines.


Salary Range

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $100000-$160000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
