Overview

Senior Software Engineer II (Instrumentation Laboratory Company, a Werfen Company, Bedford, Massachusetts): On behalf of a worldwide developer, manufacturer, and distributor of specialized diagnostic instruments for acute care diagnostics products and services, responsible for using software engineering procedures standard for research and development, carry out assignments associated with research, design, development, or support of medical diagnostic systems software. Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard software engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Under the general direction of a functional manager, with moderate latitude for self-direction, operate in one or more areas of responsibility within a specific function.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Act as an individual contributor, core team or technical lead for a specific project.
  • Accountable for the completion of assigned deliverables in accordance with approved schedules.
  • Author documentation and participate in activities in support of design control.
  • Independently plan, perform, and prioritize tasks that are complex in nature, in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Analyze and interpret data, identifying trends and formulating the next steps, while effectively performing trade off analysis, if required by the function.
  • Lead, design and/or develop one or more of the following: new test methods, specifications, technical apparatus, software and processes for complex components and functions.
  • Design and develop test automation frameworks, test scripts and tools for software testing.
  • Identify software defects and recognize outliers in results. Able to explain and document software defects and their impact.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to a multidisciplinary team in the form of documentation, presentations, technical summaries, and promote collaboration.
  • Apply technical expertise in software Automation, emerging as a subject matter expert.
  • Provide technical guidance to and/or supervision of other group members and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Able to mentor others.
  • Provide technical support for or lead CAPA or complaint investigations.
  • Recommend and lead implementation of improvement initiatives to aid department practices.
  • May be assigned CAPA ownership.

This is a hybrid position working 3 days per week at the office in Bedford, MA and 2 days per week from a home office within commuting distance to Bedford, MA. Position requires less than 5% domestic and international travel.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Masters Degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline and 6 years of experience in a software development or software quality assurance occupation with at least 4 of the 6 years within the medical device or healthcare sector.

Must also have: (I) Fluency in coding languages used in product and test development including Python, C++, and Java; (II) Expertise in creating test automation frameworks for and testing of device software; (III) Expertise in test design, test development, and test execution; (IV) Expertise in UI, API, and integration test automation; and (V) Background in (a) Message queues, Cloud computing, and Databases; (b) Configuration management, requirements management, and defect management; (c) Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD); (d) Performance, stress, and load testing; and (e) System design and software architecture.
