Posting Summary |
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant (Research Assistant). Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory/Technical Assistant (Research Assistant) will assist in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Gluck Lab in the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience, facilitating research studies and data analysis.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Supporting research studies for the Rutgers African American Brain Health Initiative (AABHI)
- Conducting health screenings and assesses the eligibility of study candidates for the AABHI and other studies
- Administering neuropsychological and physical tests to study participants, performing initial data interpretation and archiving data
- Administering fMRI scans and assisting other laboratory personnel with analysis
- Running Polysomnography (PSG) device to conduct nap/sleep studies and working with laboratory personnel on analysis
- Working with laboratory personnel helping to develop and implement new cognitive tasks
- Coordinating community and University-based educational events for survivors of sexual violence

$15.49 - $30.00 hourly |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree

Preferred Qualifications |
- Graduate degree is a plus
- Experience in writing research protocols, grants, and scientific publications is a plus
- Experience with the administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments is preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills are required, along with attention to detail
- Ability to interface with the public, manage difficult situations, and communicate effectively with research participants
- Adherence to relevant policies and regulations for working with human subjects is required
- Completes all necessary training, including fMRI

- Regularly uses Microsoft Office, fMRI, blood pressure equipment, saliva sampling equipment, PSG device, and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of the position

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Must adhere to University, SASN, and CMBN policies and procedures for research labs and human subjects, including and not limited to, Protection of Minors
- Relevant safety procedures are mandatory
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds
